cd 1 présente une approche thématique « Une année lithurgique », déroulant les grands événements célébrés en musique pour témoigner de la ferveur collective qui s’exprime alors : soit, une collection de motets représentatifs des épisodes importants de l’année protestante ; Avent, NOËL, Nouvel An, Passion, Résurrection, Ascension, Pentecôte, Trinité, soit une collection de pièces somptueusement articulées, sublimées signées : Heinrich Scheidemann, Michael Altenburg, Andreas Hammerschmidt, Paul Siefert, Michael Praetorius, Samuel Scheidt, Johann Hermann Schein, Delphin Strungk, Caspar Othmayr, Thomas Seile, Melchior Franck…


Le cd 2 distingue des partitions méconnues d’une réelle splendeur par leur sincérité et cette fusion ferveur / sensualité, toujours grâce à la diction exemplaire des chanteurs de Vox Luminis, soucieuse du texte. Ainsi sous le titre synthétique « Les fondements de la lithurgie luthérienne », sont réunis Deutsche Magnificat de Heinrich Schütz, Deutsche Messe de Christoph Bernhard ; au registre des « Sacrements » : les oeuvres clés de Hieronymus Praetorius, Heinrich Schütz, Johann Steffens ; « les Passions luthériennes » sont magnifiquement illustrées, incarnées par la Johannes Passion de Joachim a Burck ; « le dogme », par les partitions de Johann Hermann Schein, Johann Walter, Balthasar Resinarius. Mention spéciale pour l’excellent et bouleversant Deutsche Requiem de Thomas Selle, … lequel présente les mêmes textes que ceux que Johannes Brahms utilisera pour rendre hommage à son maître “spirituel”, Robert Schumann, selon le même principe de récollement…

In late March 2008, the two musicologists Stephan Blaut and Michael Pacholke from Halle University discovered a hitherto unknown organ composition by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) among recent acquisitions of the Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt in Halle. The work is a large-scale fantasia based on the chorale ”Wo Gott der Herr nicht bei uns hält”. The current edition of the Bach-Werke-Verzeichnis records only the first few bars of the piece in its appendix (BWV Anh. II no. 71), failing to cite any source.
Now a complete copy of the work came to light among the papers of the former Thomaskantor and renowned editor of Bach's works Wilhelm Rust (1822-1892); Rust had copied the composition in 1877 from a now-lost manuscript formerly located in Königsberg (now Kaliningrad). The provenance of this lost source can be traced back to the immediate circle of the composer. The exceptional quality of the composition leaves no doubt as to its author. The chorale fantasia comprises 85 bars and was written between 1705 and 1710. A critical edition prepared by Stephan Blaut and Michael Pacholke including a preface by Hans-Joachim Schulze.
